Enclosed on this diskette is the ANSI/BBS version of WAMPUM 4.5R. Pursuant to
the shareware distribution license agreement below, it can be distributed as
received on high-density media, or it can be copied to ONE 360K floppy. This
REMOTE version DOES NOT replace either version 4.2 or version 4.5.
BRIEF PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
dBASE-compatible menu-driven DBMS customized for remote use through ANSI BBS's
DETAILED PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
WAMPUM Remote 4.5R (ANSI/BBS version) is a specialized version of WAMPUM 4.5
designed exclusively for multi-user, dBASE-compatible remote data base manage-
ment using virtually any ANSI-compatible BBS including pcBOARD, WildCat, and
TriBBS as well as any other ANSI-compatible BBS with 390K ANSI DOOR support.
The beauty of WAMPUM Remote is that it is virtually 100% compatible with the
standard WAMPUM software and can be intermixed with WAMPUM 4.5 for DOS on the
same network simultaneously. Automatic record and file locking are standard.
WAMPUM Remote also supports multi-user access using multi-tasking software
so long as the DOS SHARE program is loaded so as to support each DOS session.
Because it is designed solely for dial-in use, some development features are
not available through BBS access. In particular, the report writer and the
label generator cannot be used to create new reports or label templates. How-
ever, all standard dBASE III reports and labels can be executed. Just the
templates themselves must be created in local mode. Virtually any WAMPUM 4.5
application previously developed will run with WAMPUM Remote unmodified!
WAMPUM Remote also can be run without using a BBS Door provided an ANSI driver
is loaded in the user's CONFIG.SYS startup file. We obviously do not recom-
mend WAMPUM Remote in this mode since the standard WAMPUM 4.5 software uses
direct screen writes to greatly improve video performance while WAMPUM Remote
sends ANSI escape sequences frequently to manipulate the screen.
The following functions exist in the standard WAMPUM product but are not sup-
ported in WAMPUM Remote 4.5R:
(1) Display of .PCX graphics fields
(2) Local printing at the BBS Host
(3) Loading of WAMPUM as a TSR and shelling out to DOS
(4) Modem auto-dial out support for obvious reasons
With these minor exceptions, all standard features covered in the WAMPUM 4.5
documentation are supported in the ANSI/BBS version.
WAMPUM Remote typically would be accessed thru a BBS door using an ANSI
display driver in your communications software package.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
PC-compatible with 8088 or faster processor, 390K RAM, virtually any
display card and monitor. Hard disk is strongly recommended, not req'd.
